Marie:  Hi, you must be Jane.  Come in.

Jane:  Thanks, and thanks so much for agreeing to show me the place.  The rent is really reasonable – I’m sure you must have a million people calling to have a look.

Marie: Not too many - not so many students want to live this far away from campus.

Jane:  Well, it’s not that difficult to get here from the university – I just took the number 9 bus and walked a few blocks.

Marie:  Yep, that’s the best way.  You can also take the number 10 and transfer to the number 15 at Hill Street.  Did it take long?

Jane: Not so bad, took just over half an hour.

Marie: Yeah, that’s about right.  You can put your coat here, and I’ll show you around.

Jane: Great.  Thanks.

Marie: This is the living room – as you can see, we’ve got a television, DVD player, and we get cable television too, so you can get channels from different countries as well.

Jane: Uh huh…

Marie: And over here is the kitchen.  Not very big I know, but it does the job.  If you decide to move in, you needn’t worry about pots and pans.  We can all share, there are plenty of them.

Jane: So how many people live here at the moment?

Marie:  Well, two at the moment, I’m in the main bedroom, and we have two smaller bedrooms.  Right now one is free, and one is being rented by one of my friends– she’s a student at the university too.

Jane: Oh, I see you have lots of kitchen appliances – a blender, a cappuccino machine..

Marie: And a juicer.  You can feel free to use any of them.  And of course there are the basic appliances – refrigerator, oven, stovetop….

Jane:  Looks great.  Much more than my last flat had!

Marie:  Over here is my room.  And if you’ll follow me down the hallway, I’ll show you my friend’s room, her name is Francie by the way, and the room that is available.

Jane: Ok

Marie:  Ok, so this room on the right obviously is Francie’s room, and this one on the left would be yours, if you want it.  Have a look around.

Jane: Nice, not too big, but nice…   I see there are no sheets and pillows for the bed, are those things I would have to bring myself?

Marie:  Well, we do have some extra sheets and pillows, but they aren’t new, and there are only two pillows.  You can use these if you want or bring your own.

Jane: I’d probably bring my own, as I already have a set.

Marie: Great.  You’ll also see that there aren’t any curtains up at the moment.  Don’t worry about that though; we’re just getting them dry-cleaned and they’ll be back soon.

Jane:  Sounds good.

Marie: Have a look around, take a look at the closet and drawers if you want.

Jane: It all looks good.  I do have one more question, and it might seem quite odd.

Marie: Sure

Jane: How would you feel about having the room repainted?  I mean, I would do it myself and bear the cost myself.  I just like having bright walls, you know, like a yellow or pink colour.  I think it helps me study.

Marie: I don’t see how that would be a problem, as long as it doesn’t disturb me or Francie.  You can do it during a day when we are both away or at class….

Jane:  Ok.  Oh, I also wanted to ask about internet access.  I have my own computer, but I figure there’s only one phone line in the flat, so I’m wondering if I would have access to the internet here.

Marie: Oh yes, we actually installed wireless internet access last year, so all you have to do is get the wireless card for your computer.  Once you do that you can access the internet using your computer in any room in the house. We all could be on the internet at the same time and it wouldn’t matter.  It’s the best solution for a group of students I think.  Anyway, the cost of it isn’t that high, it’s included in the phone bill.

Jane: Sounds perfect.  So… what’s the next step?

Marie: Ok, just follow me back to the kitchen and we’ll have a look at the standard lease agreement.

Jane: Great.  Thanks.

Hi visitors,

For Q3, the passage states "just over half an hour", meaning more than half an hour.  Therefore the most appropriate answer is C.
