Limericks Part 2

This lesson plan explores the humorous themes of limericks and provides the opportunity for students to produce their own
limericks.

Limericks differ from other more serious forms of poetry in that
their intention is purely to amuse the reader. The themes are silly or
even nonsensical and they should be approached as such.

Other than rhythmic and rhyming constraints of the verse, there are
effectively no real limitations on what the limerick writer chooses to
say, except it is hoped, a degree of good taste.

The ultimate goal of this lesson is for the students themselves to
become able to write and recite their own limericks. This should be the
most enjoyable part of the lesson, as it gives free rein to their
creativity and allows them to express their sense of humour.

This lesson is aimed at older secondary students.

The lesson contains five worksheets and should take around 60
minutes, though further class time will be required to complete the
limericks writing.
