Vocabulary - homophones

By Johnny Grammar

Homophones are words which sound the same but are spelled differently, like ‘were’ and ‘where’. They have different meanings as well, so you don’t want to get them mixed up!

Learning some silly sentences might help you to remember the different meanings and spellings, and will also give you some practice at pronunciation. Here are a few I’ve made up for you:

You aren’t my aunt!

I’ve seen a lot of scenes.

Don’t whine about the wine!

Where did the flea flee to?

When the police caught him he ended up in court.

I knew they were new shoes!

We ate at eight.
