Try "Blackadder", a British historical sitcom, with some true British humour! Also, "Yes Minister / Yes, Prime Minister".
"Little Britain" is funny too, but a lil disgusting sometimes. :)
I'm British, but I tend to watch mostly American TV shows. One of my favourite UK shows though is The Office, which is a comedy centred around the boss of a stationary company. It's difficult to describe the show, but it's filmed in a documentary style, although it's not actually a documentary.
The main character David Brent is the archetypal bad boss, and is played by comedian Ricky Gervais, who also wrote the series. He was brilliant in this part and has now gone on to further success in other shows and has even appeared in a Hollywood film.
I'm not sure if this show would appeal to people in other countries, I think the humour is quite subtle and an understanding of UK working life and office culture is probably important to understand the jokes. An American version of the show was made, which I tried to watch, but I only made about 10 minutes of it before swithing off - it just wasn't funny.
I think there is quite a difference between the kind of shows that are made in the UK and the US. The US comes out with some great series like 24, Prison Break, Lost, Heroes etc, whilst in the UK I think their strength is in documentaries and dramas.
One of my favourite shows at the moment is called Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares - Gordon Ramsey is a famous UK chef, with a reputation for getting really angry, shouting at people and using very bad language. In each show he visits a really bad restaurants and tries to turn it around by changing the menu and training the staff - it's entertaining stuff as Ramsey shouts and swears at the restaurant staff - I'd like to recommend this one, but Ramsey's language is so bad that I don't think he's a good model for a language learner!

"Life on Mars" is showing on TV here. Heard that it's pretty good but I haven't watched it.
