Learning a foreign language: which one?

I’ve decided to start a foreign language, but am not sure which one. I’ve short listed a few. Can anyone give me some advice?

French: I know the English like teasing the Frenchmen and vice versa, prob. due to historical reasons, but still you can’t deny the attraction of the French language. I don’t find it a “sexy” language as many do, but a beautiful language.

Spanish: I love the country, food, music and sun, and I think maybe one day when I retire I will retreat to South Spain. Also, consider the wide use of Spanish in Latin America! It’d be useful when one day I go there.

Chinese: I have to say that this has to do with my good friend Sarah and Johnny. They are very interested people and I’d like to know more about the exotic country and culture too. But I was told the language is very difficult, which puts me off a lil bit. After all, it’s not an alphabetical language and it’ll be a totally different zone for me.

What do you reckon?
