It is wrong. 'assume' should be 'assumed' :)

This sentence lacks a subject and the tenses of the several verbs in it are messed up.Maybe you can rephrase it this way:In this book, the author traces encounters between Chinese culture and Christianity ,shows various forms of Christianity in different periods ,analyzes the similarities between the two and as well assume how to propagate Christian faith in the contemporary Chinese society.

Would I like to give any suggestion whether the sentence is correct ? I would say almost, but I would use "assumed" instead of "assume" The rest of the sentence is in the past tense, but "assume" is a present tense form. It's a very formal and complex sentence. Good luck with your learning of English, leuk.
