i am a lazy girl ,my word-base is so little .Many time i want to remember more vocabulary ,but i remember today,forget tomorrow....i can't persist in learning english.so my english is so poor...
but now i start work,i work in foreign trade department,i must improve my english for my work ,also for living....
Maybe i can't make an excuse for myself now ....must to persist in learning english...but maybe the beginning is so difficult...but i believe i learn english a little every day...after a long time ,my english will be improved.
so the improtant thing is persisted in learning it.....strive......

Let me share with you how my mum (she's Italian) learn English when they first arrived in London. Like you, she started with memorising the vocabulary, but then she had the same challenge like you -- she'd forget them very quickly because she didn't use them enough. So, she'd go out in the community, talk to different people, try to USE the words she learned. She said that's the "quickest" way to learn English. Well... at least for her.

Good on you cathy. Learning a language comes through persistance, so its good you are not giving up. The more opportunity you have to communicate with others in English, the more you will learn and English will hopefully will not seem so daunting!
