Right, night shift means 夜班. And Carmen, some work requires staff to be on shift, e.g. airline staff (cabin crew, grounds service), customer service, etc. Different shift does have different working hours, like people on night shift (of a two-shift system) may start around 10 or 11pm and finish around 7 or 8am.

I didn't know this usage of "shift" before. I guess,9 shift 9小时工作制,different shift 不同的工作时间. Am I right?
