Blueberry pie

I love cheese, blueberry pie also...

Blueberry pie is a comforting sort of dessert, especially with thick soured cream or crème

fraîche in the American style. Individual tarts travel well if you're risking one last picnic to spin

out summer as long as possible. Instead of fresh Dorset blueberries - which are harvested into

September - you could use frozen ones, or make the pie with blackberries, but you'll probably

need to add more sugar to taste for the filling. The English blueberries are sweeter than imports.

I searched for its cooking procedures:

First make the pastry. In a food processor, mixer or by hand, cream the butter and sugar together until smooth and creamy. Slowly add the beaten egg - scraping the sides of the bowl every so often if you are using a mixer - until they are mixed well, then slowly fold in the flour. Mould the dough into 2 balls, wrap it in clingfilm and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

Roll out the pastry on a floured table to about 3mm thick. Cut 4 discs large enough to line 10cm x 3cm-deep individual tart tins and leaving about 1¿2cm overlapping the edge. Cut 4 more discs to fit the tops. Or adjust accordingly for one larger tart tin. Lightly grease the tins with butter and line with the larger disc of pastry to just above the top of the tin. Leave to rest for 1 hour in the fridge.

Meanwhile put the blueberries into a saucepan with the caster sugar and water. Bring to a simmer and cook for 2 minutes. Dilute the arrowroot with a little water, add to the blueberries and simmer for 2-3 minutes stirring occasionally. Transfer into a bowl and leave to cool.

I will try it this afternoon^^

what's missing in our education? some questions

just now i read shadow's "what's missing in our education?" and i have something to say and discuss with you allo(∩_∩)o...

1 do you think that the western education is better than our asian education? how do you know? what's the differences?

2 do you think that interest is very important for one's study and work? would you choose a major or job that is we say "practical" but not fit to your interest?

3 how can we improve our english teaching nowadays in big cities and country side? what do you think of the trend to learn english all over the world? as i know, there're thousands of english summer  camps during summer vacation, most of them are very expensive.

4 do you think that what you have learnt from the class is very useful? why or why not?

if we can discuss the above question together, i think it's a good way to understand and answer "what's missing in our education" especially english education, what's your  opinion?Cool

What Kind of E-dictionary Is Worth Your Choice?

Some teachers have an ill impression of e-dictionary, which could be reasonable. However, it depends on the e-dictionaries they refer to. If the e-dictionaries only tell the user of the pronunciation and some concise Chinese definitions without any trace of collocations or sentence examples, they are, politely speaking, for emergency only. If you are a Chinese student in a hope to grasp English as a life-long communication tool, please choose your e-dictionary carefully. Someone argues that we’d better refer to the paper dictionaries. But how can we resist the temptation of turning to e-dictionaries which can hold every words of the paper ones while offering quick entries and cross-reference? Isn’t that over-stubborn to reject the convenience the modern science and technology bring about and be a paper-dictionary slave? We are not doing research. We are English learners for practical purpose.

Er… I’m not here advertising for any brand of e-dictionary, for I am here, you see, just talking about the my point of view of some wise choices you would probably make. And I hope that you can easily get the answer to the title question. Good luck!Cool

Online Tomb

I have been wondering whether a register’s web page would disappear, if he/she disappears himself/herself from this tangible world.

Is there only one-way connection between the earth and the heaven?

I’ve invited you to be my online good friend, but you have already gone back to your paradise, could it ever happen that you click the button of permission?

Could I still cherish the fanciful idea that you might see my greetings on the message board?

If I were favored by such a way of communication, my words to you would be like this: you were in such a hurry, like, or just as, an angel, unable to wait any longer to go back to your land, leaving on my mind the impression as a pure and pretty little girl, everlasting and never fadable.

Would we all have at least two tombs in the future, one in the earth, another on the line? The WE in the earth feel the palpable rhythm of the garden, peaceful but restricted; the WE on the line keep pace with the ongoing world, restless but never lagging behind.

What a crazy language – plural words!

We all know that English is a bit of a crazy language, so I thought I’d share some of the craziest things about the English language with you. First of all, here are some plurals which can never be singular. Have you ever heard of the phrase ‘to make amends for something’? It means to repair a relationship by compensating for something bad that you did. For example, if I accidentally drop and break a mug while I’m at your house I will buy you a new one to make amends for the one that I broke. So we can make amends for something, but strangely, we can’t make amend. Amends can only be plural, never singular. What about pyjamas, sunglasses or trousers? They can’t be singular either! We can’t wear one pyjama or trouser, and definitely can’t have one sunglass! We can be in the doldrums (which means we are feeling sad or depressed), but never in the doldrums. We can also get the jitters (feel nervous, maybe before an exam or a date) but never get just one jitter. And finally, one of my favourite words. If I break a mirror, it might smash into smithereens, which means lots of tiny pieces. However, we can’t say ‘a smithereen’; just like all the other words I’ve mentioned, it can never be singular. How strange!

An Awkard French Class

Yesterday, I went to a free French demonstration class under my friend’s persuasion. Before, I had been wavering whether to go or not on account of my extremely low French level. Then she reassured saying that I could speak English, not all the students could truly speak French.

On arrival, the French teacher looked intensely into my eyes. Then I greeted with him awkwardly: “ Bon soir! Je m’appele Nicole.” “Enchantee” the teacher replied with a smile. “Enchantee” That was all that I could remember about French. I retreated quietly to a corner of the classroom with my friend in company. Overall, only 10 students were present in the oral French class. My friend was the one of the only two students who could communicate with the teacher in French.

Inwardly, I felt subtly humble and sorry for my French studies. Because French was a compulsory course as English major, I was thus forced to learn it for two years. But now, my effort on it turned out to be futile in that I could barely catch a word in French teacher’s lesson. Worse still, he picked on me to answer questions again and again. “Nicole,quece-que….” Come on, stop fixing your eyes on me,please. I had to resort to my friend who was capable of speaking fluent French.

After class, I asked my friend how long she had been learning French. She took pride in response that she merely learnt it for one year!  On my way home, I ruminated about my French level. Due to my laziness, I usually take it blithely and never push myself to learn it in a practical way. In other words, I cut my study process off from internet access where there is live broadcast round-the-clock. I learn this experience from the hard way a language is supposed to be picked up in a subconscious way at the beginning, such as listening and speaking.  After class, I asked my friend how long she had been learning French. So Sad

  • Today,I feel really sad …These days,I am working as an intern in the local government.I am in contact with too many complicated things.Even one of my good friends can’t understand me. I feel a lead softball in my chest. I am heavy-hearted.I am thinking aboat love and heat in the perplexing world.

Always,I could be easily excited, or be easily sad with much sorrow sentiment, which depended on the circumstances.

When I feel sad ,I have a lot of complicated things to say ,the following wil speak out my mood adequately.

Love. We are early taught to say it.I love you.We are trained to the thought of it as if there were nothing else,or nothing else worth having without it,or nothing worth having which it could not bring with it.Love is taught ,always by precept, sometimes by examples. Then hate, which no one meant to teach us,comes of itself. It is true that if we say I love you,it may be received with doubt, for there are times when it is hard to believe.Say I hate you,and the one spoken to believes it instantly, once for all.

Life is Corrupting...

Still I haven't found summer intern job and go on my boring vacation...

Just as Jackie says,"Why vacation becomes 伐开心!"  As to my present life, maybe this is ironically a funny description.

Really I feel too boring these days...

Tomorrow I'll go to an interview. In fact, I like this intern job so I want to have such a chance, but it's competitive.Anyhow, I should be confident even if I miss it!

On the other hand, I think I must start my second major paper. In the past days, I'm too busy to be engaged in the job hunting and have no result. So I've decided to stop the hunting and concentrating on the paper if I eventually can't find any...

I feel I'm becoming more and more lazy after the senior high school. Especially in English learning. This website will be helpful to my English. I'm grateful to Jackie for her recommending!

Thank you very much indeed,Xiao Mei!

what is missing in our education?

when i was looking for a university to continue my education, some of my friends and my cousin suggested me "if you are going abroad for master, you should choose a practical course". that inspires me about why they emphasised practical? and does it mean our education is not practical enough?

looking back of my high school and university education, seems like that in middle school, all the students and teachers were focusing on exam, score and when i was in university, the courses were designed too theoretical, not that many chances for us to practice.

it is said that education should be devided in four sections: family education, academic education, social education and religion education. maybe there is no way for Chinese people reach the religion education, but i think something about that should be mention because religion is the root of culture in western countries. by learning that we may understand the culture better and help us to get a overview worldwide.

About the maternity leave change

It is said that some countries will extend paid maternity leave to one year from the current 9 months. Is it a blessing? Well, I’m afraid not! I’m convinced that the governments are well-intentioned, they wanna give women employees more time to rest and care for their little babies. But actually it might harm women’s careers.I remember a middle school teacher once said, girls had better not go to graduate schools for when we graduate, those employers may avoid hiring us, because we are in the child-bearing age then.” No employers are willing to offer so long a paid maternity leave, right? The world is not as fair as it preaches, there still are lots of hidden discriminations towards women especially when it comes to career. However, what can we do?

Limits

Limits are invisible potentials melt in our blood, vessels and body, as gifts sent

by god during his/ her creation. However, it is a prevailing scenario that a majority

of people are totally unaware of their limits, or even maintain untouched.

Milk has a guarantee period, so is food. Undoubtedly, it indicates that situations

differ from superior to inferior contemporarily. The key to justify the barrier

between perfection and misery is the limits.

Turning just to the limits that applied to daily life, a simple example about

running can be demonstrated. You go running one morning. It is over 5 laps that you

feel exhuasted. Maybe you just stop and drive home. But what if you take a further 1

lap? You might be out of breathe meanwhile you may also feel satisfied about the

exercising. Finish the undone task, break the unbroken record, surpass the vacant

channel, all you need is to clarify your own limits.

Happy working,happy living

Have you ever think about how to keep the banlance between working and living?I believe the majority of people have to face this problem.

When your childern ask you to play tennis, you have to deal with a stack of files; When your wife ask you to have dinner tonight, you say that you have to work late.In fact we have to face this kind of problems everyday and how to make choices?

The key to happiness is balance and we all wish to work and live happily. In my opinion, everyone can realize this dream if he has the ability to notice the happiness around.

The most important thing is that u must have a happy heart so you are able to work and live happily. You know you are the master of yourself better than others so you know how to arrange your time. You will play with your children and enjoy the warm family time .You know how to give up wisely so yo can get in another way.You know how to deal with difficulties wisely and gracefully.

Happy working and happy living is not a dream but your life. You should live like this you are definitely worth it.

Work for yourself and you will feel that working is not boring. You are living your life every day and you feel you gain.

The real success should be like this. You can be successful both in working and living. You feel happy about what you do and how you  do it.

Happy working and happy living and keep smiling.:-)

depend on my own

When one is away from home, one have to depend on his own.

When I am out for my job, I deeply feel it.

I must rent a house for living, I ought to learn to not to be cheated by bad guys, I need to decide everything, and I have to pay for everything.

Well, I am not a school girl any more. It's time I face the music, and let my parents at ease.

I believe I can make it, no matter how hard it is.

Intel—teach to the future

These days, we are under a training called intel-education.Intel believes that education is the key to a productive future. That’s why Intel has invested over one billion dollars and Intel employees have invested over two million hours to improve education in over 50 countries. We prepare the lessons on computer according to teacher’s instructions.

Well, this is quite an interesting training, we work in group, share experience together, and learn from each other. In class, it’s somewhat like the “task-based teaching”. We have to do certain task during every period, and it’ s the task that keep each of us moving on.

Shortcomings

How lucky it would be under the ignorance of one's shortcomings!

I am gradually clearing up the hidden images of myself in my mind. Thus,

tolerance is demanded to scan my shortcomings.

I just write some of them down in case I am accustomed to my weaknesses one

day.

  • Too much enjoyment of reputation. That's why I am always hurt since I am

not willing to say 'no' to my friends.

  • Lack of persistence. I am ready to do anything challenging despite of the fact

that I can not hold on. Strengh should be solidified to my will power.

  • Diversity of destinations eliminates the dominance of pursuit. It is a common

phenomenon that I have 3 or 4 tasks to cover simultaneously. It surely results no

satisfaction of each of the task. Decision about whether it is superior or inferior s

should be made.

I am wandering about in my forests, trapped in a cave and forget the way out.

Just a single beam of light...

Movies To Recommend(3) Closer

The movie 'closer' is fantastic just like a textbook telling you all about love.

4 world-class celebrities, Julia Roberts, Jude Law, Natalie Portman, Clive Owen

add philosophic elements into that traditional drama, Closer.

Before the first scene appears, a song of the most impressive lyrics and juicy

rhythm permeates into the depth of your mind, 'the blower's daughter' by Damien

Rice.

And so it is
just like you said it would be
life goes easy on me
most of the time
and so it is
the shorter story
no love no glory
no hero in her skies
i can't take my eyes off of you
and so it is
just like you said it should be
we'll both forget the breeze
most of the time
and so it is
the colder water
the blower's daughter
the pupil in denial
i can't take my eyes off of you
did I say that I loathe you?
did I say that I want to
leave it all behind?
i can't take my mind off of you
my mind
TilI find somebody new

The movie contains almost every aspect of love. As a result, it took me 4 times

to completely understand the key inside that box. Deceiving, compromising,

hesitating, deciding, regreting and sex melt together in a wonderful pattern that

sharpen the theme of the movie.

The movie and relationship between each couple is rather complicated. Please

allow me to skip this boring part of introduction. Love is cheating. Love is disguising.

Love is trapping. Enjoy this movie and you might find situations familiar,

enlightening, touching.
